Foster children in the Alma area may have a greater chance of finding a foster home thanks to a $3,500 donation from the Arvest Foundation.

The gift was announced today at Arvest Bank’s Alma branch, where Tara Alexander and Jeremy Nuckolls of Arvest were on hand to present the check.

The River Valley Adoption Coalition is dedicated to finding foster, as well as forever, homes for school-aged and older children. Located in Fort Smith, it strives to assist families with the adoption or fostering process. The coalition offers a wealth of resources and works alongside families to provide a loving, welcoming home for any child.

The funds will be used to organize and host special “meet-and-greet” events where foster children and prospective parents can meet in a fun and safe environment. These events are a creative way for more foster children to get exposure to potential foster families and, ultimately, a forever home.

Paula Higgins, president of the River Valley Adoption Coalition, commented, “We will use the funds to bring adopted children across the state to meet potential parents and host a carnival-style event with games in a fun environment for the children. The parents are already pre-screened and ready to adopt.”

“We are pleased to present this donation to the River Valley Adoption Coalition,” Nuckolls said. “The coalition provides a much-needed service in the River Valley by joining foster children with prospective parents in a safe, positive environment. We were happy to choose them because of the enormous impact they have on the communities’ children.”
