Ducks are $5 each, or a quack pack (6 ducks) may be purchased for $25.  Tickets for the “Cheese & Quackers” Wine & Cheese Social are $25. However, if you purchase two quack packs (12 ducks), then you will receive one “Cheese & Quackers” ticket.

The “Cheese & Quackers” Wine & Cheese Social will take place from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, September 11 at the Peabody Hotel.  The Duck Pluck will immediately follow at 7:00 pm.  You do not need to be present to win.

The Carl and Alleen McKinney Charitable Trust was established by Carl and Alleen McKinney in 1997 and is managed by Arvest Trust Company. The Trust is to benefit the children, youth, elderly, poor and disadvantaged of Bentonville. On behalf of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation, Cindy Webb, director of the Northwest Arkansas office, accepted a $30,000 gift. The funds will be used for renovation of the Centers for Children in Lowell, and to facilitate the opening of a general pediatric clinic to serve the 9,000 children in Washington and Benton Counties who do not have a primary care physician and qualify for ARKids First.

Suzanne Jessup accepted a $7,000 gift on behalf of the Bella Vista Public Library. The funding will be used to purchase 350 books for the library.

Since 1958, the Benton County Sunshine School has been serving people in Northwest Arkansas who have developmental disabilities or delays and children who are "at risk." Leta Shockley, executive director, accepted the $10,310 donation that will go towards a matching grant to purchase a new handicap accessible school bus to pick up and drop off children 15 months to 5 year olds who attend a therapeutic preschool center.

$8,000 First-time homebuyer tax credit - Time is running out!

Thursday, August 27 at 08:25 AM

Time is running out on the 2009 first-time homebuyer tax credit! You must close on the purchase of home on or before November 30, 2009 to be eligible for this year's tax credit.  If you are thinking of buying your first home and want to take advantage of the tax credit, you should delay no longer.

With this tax credit, you could qualify for a credit up to 10% of the purchase price of the home up to a maximum of $8,000!  There are income restrictions as the credit phases out at $75,000 modified adjusted gross income for single tax filers and $150,000 for joint filers.  Please consult your tax advisor for your own eligibility and application of the tax credit.

A first-time homebuyer is defined as someone who has not owned a home in the past 3 years, so please keep this important detail in mind!

Be sure to act soon though as the typical home purchase process could take 45 to 60 days to close, meaning potential tax credit candidates might want to enter into contracts by October 1st to build plenty of cushion to meet the November 30th closing deadline.  Home repairs, inspections, title problems, and other delays are always a possibility to delay closing - plus, the Thanksgiving holiday precedes the Monday, November 30th deadline.

Please visit our First-time Homebuyer Resource Center for videos and more details on the tax credit and tips for first-time homebuyers.

If you have any questions about the home loan process or want to talk to a lender for pre-approval, visit a nearby Arvest banking location.  If you prefer to apply or get pre-approved online, you can do so here.

Back-To-School Budgeting

Monday, August 24 at 12:49 PM

It’s that time of year again, back-to-school! Can you believe this summer is almost over and fall is just around the corner? Going back to school can be an exciting time for parents and kids, but can also mean a sudden drain on your cash.

School supplies aren’t necessarily cheap and there are always unexpected expenses, (yearbook dues, increased costs of school lunches, etc.) At this time of the year, a budget can be a parent’s best friend.

You Better Shop Around
It doesn’t take much to turn buying school supplies into a full-on shopping spree. Before you invest in anything, (pencils, notebooks or expensive calculators.), try to estimate how much you can afford to spend overall and what the costs are likely to be. Most stores have websites now, so comparing prices online can help you save a bundle. Also, check the Sunday paper for money-saving coupons on school supplies before your trip to the store.

Get the Kids Involved
Have your kids join in the back-to-school shopping preparation. Younger kids can help clip coupons and older children can help compare costs and tally them up. Have the kids pitch in to make easy-to-read charts for tracking back-to-school spending. You could even turn it into a game where the goal is staying under budget. Look at it this way; it’s kind of like a math lesson that benefits both parent and child.

Get Creative
There is a more-than-good chance that school clothes are the biggest chunk of your back-to-school budget. But who says they have to be brand new? Hosting a swap meet with another family or hitting consignment stores can help you save money and send the kiddos back to school in stylish clothing. Additionally, check online stores like eBay or Overstock.com to find some great last minute deals on back-to-school apparel.

Arvest is happy to offer products like our Spending Card and our all-new Family Card feature, for existing credit card holders. Products like these can help your family manage money and are also safer than cash.
