Telephone Scam Fraud Alert

Monday, June 28 at 12:20 PM

Please be on the alert for fraudulent automated phone calls claiming they need your personal banking information and specifically information about your debit card(s).  We have been notified by several customers who report that they were contacted by an automated calling system with a recorded message indicating that their debit card had expired, was suspended or had been compromised.  The recording then prompted the card holder to enter their card number, PIN and security code.  As you probably already know, Arvest Bank does not contact customers via phone, email or text message asking for confidential information such as card numbers, PINs or security codes.

If you received a phone call like this and entered your card information, please contact us immediately at (866) 931-9743 so that we can protect your account.

If you received a phone call like this, but did not divulge confidential information, please notify us via email at reportfraud@arvest.com.  If possible, please include the phone number of the caller and describe what information the recording asked for.

As a part of our fraud prevention efforts, Arvest bank does contact customers by phone when we suspect the possibility of unauthorized transactions on your account.  These calls are made live and are not made using recorded messages.  We will not ask you for your bank card number, account number, card PIN or the security code on the back of your card.

For more information on protecting yourself and your accounts, please visit our Consumer Protection section of our website.

Thanks for the notification and reminder about not giving account information over the phone.  Many people panic and do this even when they usually have good common sense and would not.  Once again, thank you.

I knew this was a scam call when they never said anything about Arvest bank and asked me for personal information.

Every member of my family has recieved calls of this nature.  Some were recorded, some were live.  Some had a number show up on caller ID, some did not.  Some indicated a bank card other than where we do business.

We just hung up but I wonder how many people did not.

My mother and brother both received these phonecalls, however they were in regards to my brother's account.  The caller ID showed up on his iPhone and the number was from Ontario Canada.  My mother had caller ID on hers, area code 281.  She knew it was fraudulent when the automated system asked for the card number.  These happened on Friday, 7/2/2010 after hours.  When she tried calling the number back, it was busy.  My brother doesn't have an account through Arvest, only a military account.

I have been contacted twice over the years for suspicious activity on my Arvest Credit Card.  Both times my information had been compromised there was a small 'fishing' charge to my card and Arvest recognized this as suspicious activity.  I got a call on a Sunday morning for a transaction that was coded as me being there in another state!  Nothing like that news while you are having your morning coffee!  Anyhow, the representatives were very clear about what was going on, who they were and such.  Always professional, polite and helpful.  My card was cancelled and they sent me new ones right away.  We've been customers of Arvest for over a decade and it is service like this that keeps us here.  Thanks for being a good bank in a sea of crummy ones.
